Earthquake Map

Filed under: Uncategorized — Smart @ 7:54 am

I found that my blog has been hacked badly.

When I wanted to insert a picture in the post, my Norton warns me that there is a security risk. God damn these people!!!

I have to use a link: http://blog.huzhan.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/20080512earthquake.jpg

Seems it’s working again, don’t know why

Earthquake

Filed under: Uncategorized — Smart @ 4:59 pm

An earthquake just happened around 14:28 in Sichuan province, magnitude factor 7.8. Irony is, in a small place about 100 km away from this earthquake spot, a few days ago (May 3rd), there was a rumor that there will be an earthquake in that place and people should leave. The government found that this rumor came out because one governor heard something wrong in a meeting, and announced that there won’t be any earthquake and tell people not to worry.

Annoying

It’s so annoying.

I keep modify a few posts per day to delete all the contents added by the hackers (or hacker software). But today I found that some of the posts I have modified are hacked again, there are again those links attached to the end of each post. Seems simply not allowing other user to register is not the solution. There is some bug to this blog system. Hell, what can you get from a freeware!

Maybe updating my blog system to the latest version will solve the security problem. But I don’t have that time now. Because I need to think about keeping all my blog content untouched.

What I just did is just blocked two IPs. I checked my access history and see these two IPs connects to my blog frequently and what they are viewing are all those added contents. But I don’t think this will solve any problem. They can change IP easily, and other hackers can still access my blog from other IPs.

Now, my blog is still being indexed by Yahoo and Baidu maybe. You can just go to Yahoo and type blog.huzhan.com and see what you will get from the searching.

Bastard

Filed under: Uncategorized — Smart @ 5:00 pm

I got an email from Google today saying that while indexing my site, “some of your pages were using techniques that are outside our quality guidelines”. So they will stop indexing my blog site for at least 30 days. I don’t care about that. But I checked and saw that almost all my posts have been modified by somebody. There might be a system bug or something, so they can change my post. They change it in such a way, that their added text can’t be seen in a webbrowser, but the texts are there and can be seen by search engines like Google. Even I can’t find anything wrong at the beginning. But Google sent me some example links in the email. I tried them and those links contained some page in my blog (without the frames etc.), showing some links to some other sites. Some links are for financing, some for allstate insurance etc. At last, I found those information by searching the database of the blog system. And I have to delete those texts in the database, one by one. I don’t have time for that now. So I will just leave it. But I changed some settings in my blog, and unchecked the option “anyone can register”, and something else. I don’t know whether this can solve the problem. From time to time, I see somebody registering with some wierd name, but never post any comment. I was wondering why. Now I (maybe) understand.

Windows Desktop Search 3.01

Filed under: Uncategorized — Smart @ 9:12 pm

I must say, this is a garbage software.

1. The file types it can search within is limited. Not even Microsoft’s own file types, say, Access database file or Microsoft Onenote.

2. After I installed the software, it started indexing. That is to read files in advance and form a database. Later, the search will be done within the database, hence will be faster. There is a place to save the results of the indexing. I changed the file location for the index file. The indexing did not stop. The indexing needs hours. I turned off the computer and went to sleep. The indexing was half the way. The second day, when I opened the computer, I found the indexing restarted from the very beginning. That’s because I changed the place of the index file. Shit!

3. Today, the indexing is done, about 60000 files. I added some new files, the indexing did not start automatically to update the new file, which it should.

4. I created a new directory. Nothing is happening. When I check the configuration, I found this newly added directory is automatically selected to the list of directories to be indexed. I unchecked the newly added directory, closed the configuration window. Damn, the indexing process started. The indexed file number was still some 60000, but the to be indexed file number kept increasing and increasing. I don’t understand. BTW, the folder I just added contains only 2 files. And the removing of the folder should not cause other files to be re-indexed.

5. I removed all other folders which were originally in the list. Left only the newly added folder. Later, I found “My Documents” folder was automatically added to the list. I removed that folder again. BTW, the to be indexed file number is still increasing.

6. After restarting computer, I found the indexing process was not running. I further found that all file numbers(indexed or to be indexed) were 0. Remember before restarting, there were at least one folder, the newly added one.

7. I opened the configuration window, wanted to add one folder. But I couldn’t, the field and buttons were grayed out and disabled.

Shit… This is the product from Microsoft. Free, though…

New version of campus panorama

Filed under: Uncategorized — Smart @ 9:44 pm

Here is a new version of the campus panorama I posted a few days ago. This time, a .mov file is made to display the panorama. The image can be scrolled by pressing and holding left mouse button and moving the mouse to one side.

I didn’t take much time to make the panorama. I didn’t correct some flaws in the image. For example, you can see some ghosts in the image, on the playground. Those ghosts are caused by moving of the people between two shots of that place. These ghosts can be corrected easily.

Please click the following image and download the .mov file. You may need a Quicktime player to play the .mov file.

Low frequency noise

Filed under: Uncategorized — Smart @ 1:12 pm

Some gas exhaust fan is mounted on the top of my lab building, close to my room. The noise when the fan is operating is very annoying. It is of very low frequency. It may cause distress and anxiety. I feel very bad when it is on and all the time think about it and hope it to be off. I can not blame the people who are using it, they are doing their job. It is the place where they mount the fan is not good. Or the kind of fan is making too much noise, but I guess mankind simply can not make better exhaust fans.

More information about infrasound causing anxiety can easily be found, for example, the research about low frequency noise: www.scotland.gov.uk/Resource/Doc/158512/0042973.pdf

Campus

Filed under: Uncategorized — Smart @ 7:15 pm

Today, I didn’t work. Stay at home, watching movies, feels so good. Here is a photo showing the view from my home window, which is facing the campus. Today the weather is good. At the time the photo was taken, it was around 5pm, the time when students going to have supper, so there is less people on the playground. Otherwise the playground will be full for such a nice day.
